James Hervey Evans of Bearden died at the Ashley County Medical Center in Crossett on Wednesday at the age of 71.

Evans was born in Calhoun County on December 30, 1936 to the late Herman Evans Sr. & Dolly Evans. He was a retired truck driver and a member of the Eagle Mills Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife Mary Kathryn Holt Evans of Bearden; four sons, Audrey Evans of Bearden, Jackie Evans of Bearden, Donnie Evans of Thornton, and Wade Gammel of Crossett; three daughters, Paula Jean Tucker of Banks, Sheila Lott of Crossett, and Melissa Johnson of Hamburg, one brother, Herman Evans Jr. of Bearden; three sisters, Elizabeth Nash of Bearden, Geneva Anthony of Bearden, and Kathryn Davidson of Chidester; seventeen grandchildren, & six great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at the Benton Funeral Home Chapel in Fordyce on Friday with the Rev. Chris Morgan officiating. Burial is at Evans Cemetery with arrangements by Benton Funeral Home.
